Day of the Race

Our first outing for 2 years was to Cookham, near Maidenhead. The event was run by Cookham Bridge and Marlow Thames Rotary clubs and was extremely well organised and attended. A really early start for some of the team and we arrived to find the gazebo up and ready with lots of pain au chocolat and croissants.

This event was an exciting first for some of the team. Fourteen teams entered and we raced off in pairs, the winners of each race went forward to a "cup", the runner ups went forward to a "plate".

First Race

Our first race was against 'Hungry Wet Hippos' and we fairly shot down the course and managed to win.

Second Race

Our next race was against' Henley Paddlers 2' who were just that little bit faster than us. But we didn't lose heart as we then went forward to the plate round and came up against 'Beer and Prosecco'. We were neck and neck over the 200 metres but sadly we lost by only a couple of dragon's whiskers - literally only about 20 cm.

We were well matched in that race and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. This was a good team-building event and an example of things to come.
