The Bourne Water Dragons honour fallen heroes with poppies in Christchurch with remembrance ceremonies, and heartfelt community tributes.

Bourne Water Dragons took to the river on Sunday morning with all members wearing an assortment of poppies to show respect for our lost heroes who went to war to save Britain. Our aim was to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces, emergency services and volunteers.

Christchurch put on an event which included: a procession from the Royal British Legion on the High Street, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Garden of Remembrance; and a main service at the Priory.

As we approached the Christchurch Priory, several members requested that we leave the boat and make our way to the Priory to show our respects and honour the fallen. We walked quietly in awe of the atmosphere and stood silent among members of the public. It was a very moving moment and, during the two-minute silence, several tears were shed. Our sister boat, Pink Champagne also stopped to pay their respects.

The paddle back to base was quieter than normal as people thought about the horror of war. The simple comfort of tea, coffee and cake were well received and once again many thanks to our Rosemary for baking each week.
