Bob King

Non-Hodgkin’s Follicular Lymphoma survivor

After being diagnosed with non Hodgkin’s follicular lymphoma and after 3 years of treatment, we moved to Christchurch. I was never one for exercise, but my wife saw a Bourne Water Dragons post on Facebook, a dragon boat group in Christchurch supporting survivors of cancer.

She suggested I joined to help with my fitness; as soon as I met the team, I felt welcomed and at ease.

After a safety briefing and instructions, we were on the river.

I am so pleased I made that phone call, to meet up with the team who understand cancer and to have the enjoyment of paddling down the river with friends and lots of laugher is the best medicine you could ever have for mind and body.

Thank you Bourne Water Dragons

I'm also a member of both BWD and MENTALK - a group for men who have had or have cancer or whose loved ones have been affected by cancer. They meet up on the first Thursday of the month at the Bournemouth football club to have a coffee, chat, laugh, and get information from invited speakers.
